nablet Releases Major Upgrade of mediaEngine Transcoder

AACHEN, Germany and LAS VEGAS – April 18, 2016 – nablet, a leading provider of media processing technologies, announced today that it has released a major update of its mediaEngine live and file video transcoder. The company will be demonstrating the new version during NAB Show 2016, April 18-21 in Las Vegas.

nablet mediaEngine is a transcoder for live and file based workflows, that facilitates the encoding of video and audio media to a variety of acquisition, editing, broadcast and web formats. It runs either stand-alone or within a multi-node rendering farm controlled by third party apps like netorium’s Active Transfer Tool (ATT) and others.

mediaEngine has an integrated ultra-fast threading model that makes maximum use of the given resources. The transcoding speed is maximized as the built-in nablet video codecs are also optimized for the internal workflow. Specially optimized encoders and decoders for specific formats like XDCAM provide further advantages compared to standard multi-purpose codecs.

mediaEngine is designed to allow highest possible scalability to set up cluster and cloud based media processing and high density transcoding solutions.

In addition, mediaEngine takes full advantage of a GPU accelerated processing pipeline including Intel quick sync encoding, decoding, and other functions like scaling, inverse telecine, etc.

“Time critical ingest jobs that media companies face today are optimized by using mediaEngine’s MXF while-function,” said product manager Adriano Gaeta. “It greatly reduces latency by processing MXF files while reading or writing. The automated, GPU-based proxy file generation is just one of many interesting features that our transcoder supports. Nablet mediaEngine represents a new generation of lightweight ultra-flexible transcoders.”

“We at artec are specialists in the storage and evaluation of real-time information generated from TV, radio, internet TV and other sources,” said Ingo Hoffmann, General Manager of artec technologies. “We have replaced our old transcoder with nablet mediaEngine, as it gives us many more channels per box. This includes saving rack space and electricity, and also includes interesting technologies like video fingerprinting for automated content recognition.”

nablet mediaEngine supports Windows and Linux. A Mac version is planned for release in July 2016. A hardware accelerated appliance developed together with STS Tecom, based on Intel E5/E3 processors together with a VCA board, will be available at the ANGA COM show in June.

nablet and Artec will be exhibiting at NAB Show 2016 in booth SU14813.
